KUALA LUMPUR, March 20 (Bernama) --
With just two days left for nomination to the
MCA polls, Kelana Jaya division chief Ong Chong
Swen has announced her decision to contest for
the post of Central Committee (CC) member.
"I'm going to contest for the MCA CC on March
28. I wish the central delegates will give me an
opportunity to offer my services and be able to
participate in party affairs," she told
reporters at the launch of UMNO Kelana Jaya
Health and Welfare Carnival here today.
This is the second time that Ong is contesting
for the CC. In October 2008, she failed in her
bid to become CC member when she garnered only
952 votes, which was short of 100 votes to
become a CC member.
This time around, she is confident in bagging a
post in the CC. "In the past two years, I spent
a lot of time working for my division. I would
now like to be more active at party and
national-level.
"I will utilise my website and blog to let the
people know me and our division better.
"I wish delegates who supported me two years ago
would continue to give me their support," said
Ong.
On former party president Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting
offering himself as a candidate for the post of
president, she said it was the right of the
Kulai MP.
"In the current scenario, the most important
thing is that the CC should be able to work as
one to help stabilise the party.
Thirty-one posts are up for grabs in the polls
on March 28 -- one each for president and deputy
president, four for vice-president and 25 for CC
members.
