RAYA Tanglung 1Malaysia, a joint Mid-Autumn
Festival, Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Malaysia Day
celebration organised by Kelana Jaya MCA
parliamentary liaison office and Kelana Jaya
MCA, was a splendid affair.
Accompanied by a dragon dance troupe and a
kompang group, Deputy Women, Family and
Community Development Minister Senator Heng
Seai Kie and Kelana Jaya parliamentary liaison
officer Ong Chong Swen led a tanglung parade
into the dimly-lit mall.
They were joined by Sunway Pyramid chief
operating officer Kevin Tan, Sunway Group exco
member Puan Sri Dr Susan Cheah and event
organising chairman William Cha, as well as
parents and children carrying candle-lit
lanterns.

Colourful: Children having fun with the
candle-lit lanterns at the Raya Tanglung
1Malaysia event.

Symbolic: Heng (third from right)
and Ong(second from left) launching the Raya
Tanglung 1 Malaysia celebration with (from left)
Tan, Cheah and Cha.

Eye-catching: A dragon dance troupe making its
way into Sunway Pyramid.
During the parade, the VIPs were served
mooncakes and tea, air sirap and
ketupat, teh tarik and roti canai,
by children in traditional costumes.
A variety of performances, including dancing,
singing and an acrobatic show, were put up for
the public near the mall’s blue entrance.

Ong, in her speech, said she was told that Hari
Raya Aidilfitri was a religious festival while
the Mid-Autumn was a cultural festival, and
hence should not be celebrated together.
“But in Malaysia, it is the spirit of
acceptance, joy and love that bind us together.
Both festivals are celebrated with lights that
show the way of muhibbah,” she said.
